COSTA’S MULTIMILLION DOLLAR ART COLLECTION
Written by Costa Cruise Lines
Nearly 5,000 Original Works of Art Aboard Fleet of 12 Ships - Guests sailing onboard Costa's stunning fleet of 12 ships will find rich collections of antiques and design pieces joined by modern and contemporary original works of art commissioned by the company that define the character of each ship. From the structure to internal layout, to the furnishings and works of art onboard, each ship evokes a different dimension, inspired by a style or theme chosen by its architects and interior designers.

Costa Cruises' art collection on its ships is the result of its long-term commitment to giving art and architecture a central role as an added value in the design of the company's ships. All 12 ships in Costa's fleet feature works by renowned artists such as Lucio Del Pezzo, Omar Galliani, Emanuele Luzzati, Milo Manara, Carlo Mattioli, Susumu Shingu, Aldo Spoldi, Tullio Pericoli, Arnaldo Pomodoro and Emilio Tadini, leading figures in the development of contemporary art in all its different expressions - from painting and photography to sculpture and installation - alongside pieces by young artists.

From the end of the Second World War to the present day, the 31 ships that have made up Costa Cruises' passenger fleet not only reflect the very best in shipping, but are also living testimony to Italian and international artistic and architectural trends. The art collections of each ship are contemporary with the period in which the ship was built and are a testimony to the historical development of contemporary art and design over the last 60 years.

Costa Cruises is Italy and Europe's number one cruise line. For the past 60 years its ships have sailed the world, offering the best in Italian style, hospitality and cuisine and providing dream vacations with the best in fun and relaxation. In 2007 over 1.1 million guests chose to cruise with Costa, a record for the European cruise industry. The company's 12 fleet members, each with her own distinctive characteristics and unique style, all fly the Italian flag and sail each year to 250 destinations in the Mediterranean, Northern Europe, the Baltic Sea, the Caribbean, South America, the United Arab Emirates, the Far East and the Indian Ocean.

Five more vessels have been commissioned and will enter service by 2012. Costa Cruises has been certified by RINA (Italian Shipping Register) with the BEST4, an integrated system of voluntary certification of corporate compliance with the highest standards governing social accountability (SA 8000, issued in 2001), environment (UNI EN ISO 14001, 1996), safety (OHSAS 18001, 1999) and quality (UNI EN ISO 9001, 2000). All Costa's ships have been awarded RINA's voluntary "Green Star" notation based on the highest environmental protection standards. Costa Cruises is also an official partner of the WWF for the protection of the marine ecoregions of the Mediterranean, the Greater Antilles and Brazil.
